Acoustic Emission Testing

Acoustic Emission (AE) testing is a cost-effective and sensitive method for assessing the condition of pressurised systems and load bearing structures. This method of non-destructive testing can often be performed on plant and structures while still in operation, as this provides adequate loading for propagation of defects and the associated creation of acoustic emissions.
Due to the versatility and non-intrusive nature of AE testing, it has many industrial applications such as the detection of partial discharge of electrical transformers, leaks and corrosion, and the structural integrity of pressure vessels, insulated booms of elevated work platforms and many other structures.
ATTAR has been an industry leader in Acoustic Emission testing since 1986 and is currently the NATA accreditation provider in Australia.

Our Services

Acoustic Emission

Our ASNT Level II and Level III consultants provide NATA accredited Acoustic Emission testing reports detailing active corrosion, propagating defects such as cracks, and leak detection on metallic and composite structures. We conduct Acoustic Emission testing on storage tanks, fiberglass elevating work platform isolators, pipelines and pressure vessels of all kinds, and have conducted significant research in the area of applications of Acoustic Emission testing, such as on power poles, transformers and tower cranes.

How We Help

Minimise downtime

The advanced testing methods ATTAR utilise require your assets to only be taken offline for a period of hours, rather than days, and can be mobilised on short timeframes to take advantage of incidental downtime or reduced demand.

Minimise expensive inspections

Traditional NDT and inspection methods often require complete asset isolation, with expensive and lengthy wind-down procedures. ATTAR’s condition monitoring provides information on if such inspections are necessary in the short and medium term, minimising unnecessary costs and allowing prioritisation of the assets.

Keep your assets and people safe

Regular condition monitoring provides a record of the condition of an asset throughout its life. This information allows for changes in condition to be analysed and life cycle estimates to be developed, significantly reducing the likelihood of unexpected failures and ensuring the safety of all asset users.
